Email To Your Landlord
This email template is for people who live in a rented property, but if you do a have a mortgage you can discuss your payment options with them directly.
However, if you own a property and have people renting it from you then it’s worth taking a looking at your own tenants financial situation and seeing if you can work together and come to some agreement ensuring that they stay with you during these times and don’t end up moving out. This can be done by coming to an agreement to where they, for example, can cover your mortgage and bills. This ensures that they can stay with reduced rent and you get your costs covered.
Also, if you have a spare room right now why not whack it on spareroom.co.uk and offer it at the cost price of your mortgage and get it covered as there will be many people needing to move right now who can’t afford the full rent price and who may not have anywhere else to go.
Keep your mind and heart open and get creative on this subject. Let’s all help one another.
EMAIL TO THE LANDLORD
Hey (INSERT THE NAME)
I hope you're good and most of all safe during these times. I wanted to reach out regarding the rent.
Due to this crazy situation that we are all facing right now with the lockdown and work being cancelled, I have been forced to take a look at my finances.
I would like to be clear and honest with you as I know you may be struggling financially too.
At the moment it looks like I can afford to pay you the full rent for the next (INSERT NUMBER OF MONTHS).
However, this may change due to lack of work. If things continue down this path, I wanted to check something with you.
Would you prefer it if I left the property if I am unable to pay the full rent, or would you prefer me to stay in the property and pay a lower rent to cover the cost of your mortgage payment and the bills at least so you don't have this pressure?
Please know that I am aware of the terms of our contract but I have been advised to try and come to some form of agreement with you so we are both able to work through this.
I also know this may not be ideal for you as you may have other financial commitments which my rent payment covers, but I thought I would offer this as a solution as it may be a suitable deal for us both if things get worse with the economy.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Please stay safe.
